Lexus of Santa Fe can help you identify what makes your vehicle lights flicker.
If you see your lights dimming while driving, it’s likely due to a battery that is failing. If your battery is normal, there are other trouble spots that may be responsible for the issue. Whether it’s the battery or something else, it is imperative that you have the problem repaired ASAP. If your lights aren’t working properly, you may become a danger to other drivers.
Dimming lights generally happen in 3 places:
Since the battery is the most convenient item to replace, this is where a mechanic will look first. If you suspect the battery is on its way out, bring it here so we can diagnose the problem and get the right OEM parts for your vehicle. While there are cases caused due to a failing battery, there are other culprits to consider.

If the battery is not the reason for your flickering car lights, it may be a bad bulb. Dead light bulbs are an easy and quick fix and present an opportunity to upgrade to new energy-efficient LED bulbs.
If it’s a bad fuse, you might be looking at a bigger issue than you had originally thought. A fuse fails when there is too much electricity runs through it. For example, if the anti-lock brakes are connected to a 10amp fuse, and the fuse gets more than 10amps of electricity, the fuse would fail. In this example, your anti-lock brakes would fail due to the blown fuse. If you have a fuse that continues to fail, bring it in so we can diagnose the larger, potentially more dangerous issue.
Flickering dashboard lights may also be signs the alternator is going bad. Think of it like this, you have battery power to start your car, but to keep your car running, the power is supplied by your alternator. If you own an older vehicle with halogen headlights, you may notice them gradually get dimmer with a dying alternator. On new cars equipped with HID or LED lighting, they may flicker on and off or just stop functioning altogether.
A bad light switch, whether it’s the headlight switch knob or the interior lights dimmer, also needs to be considered if you have flickering lights on your vehicle. In some situations, just replacing a worn-out switch could solve the problem, especially in older cars or vehicles with excessive wear. If your vehicle doesn’t fall into either category, it could be symptoms of a bigger problem with the electrical system.
