How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

How often should you rotate your tires? The short answer: you need to rotate your tires after every 5,000 – 7,000 miles of driving in Los Alamos. But there’s more to it than knowing how many miles to rotate tires. Check your car’s owner’s manual for a more specific figure that suits your make and model. Here are some tips to keep in mind.

Why Rotate Tires?

Rotating the tires – moving each tire from one wheel to another – extends the life of your tires by making them wear more evenly. Rotating will also put less strain on the drivetrain, provide better traction on slippery roads, and make for a quieter ride. If a sudden storm pops up in Taos, your car will handle better if the tires have been regularly rotated. You’ll still need to replace your tires eventually, but rotating can help extend their safe and useful life.

How Often Should You Rotate Tires on AWD Vehicles?

All-wheel drive vehicles tend to need tires rotated every 3,000 – 5,000 miles. Lexus of Santa Fe offers two complimentary maintenance service appointments that includes tire rotations with every new Lexus purchase. L/Certified vehicles receive four complimentary maintenance appointments. During this time, and afterwards, you can quickly and easily schedule tire rotations through our service department.

How Often Should You Rotate Tires on FWD or RWD Vehicles?

The tires on a front-wheel drive vehicle wear out faster than the rear tires. Likewise, the rear tires wear out faster on a rear-wheel drive vehicle. If you’re rotating the tires yourself, please remember:

  • For FWD, move the rear tires to the front and flip them. The left rear tire should go on the right front wheel. When you move the front tires to the back, keep them on the same side.
  • For RWD, move the front tires to the back and flip them. The left front should go on the right rear wheel. When you move the back tires to the front, keep them on the same side.
  • If you use your vehicle on rough roads, you should consider rotating your tires more often.
